FPIES

The first ever NIH funding for FPIES research!

We are excited to share the great news! Dr. Cecilia Berin from Northwestern University and Dr. Anna Nowak-Wegrzyn from New York University have been awarded a research grant from the National Institutes of Health to study the immunology of FPIES. They will explore a novel approach to FPIES oral food challenge and examine the changes in blood immune parameters following the challenge. The study aims to develop a better diagnostic test, decipher the mechanisms of FPIES reactions, and identify novel targets for treatment. The study will be carried out at the Northwestern University, New York University, and Icahn School of Medicine. The study is in the initial stages of start up and we will provide an update when it will open to the participants. For more questions reach out to pediatricallergyresearch@nyulangone.org.

This $2.5 million in research funding is a result of the NIAID Food Protein-induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES) Workshop held in June and facilitated by the International FPIES Association. Thanks to all who have followed our journey to the NIH and our request for research funding for FPIES. Congratulations to Drs. Berin and Nowak-Wegryzn, and we will continue to update our FPIES community on developments from this exciting new partnership for #FPIES research!
